The breeze toyed with his figure, and he swayed.
And bashfulness spread across his cheek, and it turned rose-red.

A fawn—my heart stood alone in loving him,
When he became peerless in his beauty.

A moon who guided those astray with his face,
And led the guided astray with his luxuriant tresses.

When he unveiled—may I never lack that antimony kohl.

Given to breaking promises in love,
If only he would make estrangement a promise!

His charms stole away minds with an eye
That rusts hearts, and a sight that polishes rust away.
ياO صاحِيَsober الأَعطافِthe limbs مِنfrom سُكرِthe intoxication of الطِلىwine
ماwhat بالُis the matter with طَرفِكَyour eye لاnot يَزالُcease مُعَربِداdrunkenly unruly
O you whose limbs are sober, free of wine's drunkenness,
Why is your eye forever drunkenly unruly?

And the sword of your glance lies hidden in its sheath—
How has it cleft its targets while still sheathed?

They compared you to a supple bough in ignorance;
By God, the comparer has wronged you and overstepped.

Boughs are beautiful when clothed in their leaves,
Yet we see you at your most beautiful when bare.
