فَوَاللَهِSo, by God ماnot فَرَّقتُI distributed ماwhat جُدتَyou generously gave ليto me بِهِwith it
فَوَاللَهِ ما فَرَّقتُ ما جُدتَ لي بِهِ
عَلىamong الصَحبِthe companions عَنout of تيهٍconceit عَرانِيَovertook me أَوor كِبرِpride
عَلى الصَحبِ عَن تيهٍ عَرانِيَ أَو كِبرِ
So, by God, I did not distribute what you generously gave me
among my companions out of conceit that overtook me, or pride.
وَلَكِنَّنيand yet I لَمّاwhen عَلِمتُI realized بِأَنَّنيof the fact that I
وَلَكِنَّني لَمّا عَلِمتُ بِأَنَّني
أُقَصِّرُI fall short عَنof أَداءِfulfilling حَقِّكَyour due بِالشُكرِthrough thanks
أُقَصِّرُ عَن أَداءِ حَقِّكَ بِالشُكرِ
But when I realized that I
fall short of fulfilling your due through thanks,
شَرِكتُI shared with جَميعَall الصَحبِthe companions فيهاin it لَعَلَّهاperhaps they
شَرِكتُ جَميعَ الصَحبِ فيها لَعَلَّها
تُساعِدُthey help فيin شُكرٍthanks يَقومُstands بِهِby it عُذريmy excuse
تُساعِدُ في شُكرٍ يَقومُ بِهِ عُذري
I shared it with all my companions, hoping they
would help offer thanks through which my excuse might be upheld.
