الغَيثُ عَقيبَ ما هَمى عارِضُهُ

الغَيثُ عَقيبَ ما هَمى عارِضُهُ

وَالحُبُّ قَبيلَ ما نَمى عارِضُه

وَالحُبُّ قَبيلَ ما نَمى عارِضُه

Rain comes just after its cloud pours down;

The rain comes after its clouds appear

And love just before his cheek-down grows.

And love comes before its cause grows clear

حاشاكَ تَقولُ عارِضٌ يَمنَعُني

حاشاكَ تَقولُ عارِضٌ يَمنَعُني

أَو تُحوِجُني أَقولُ ما عارِضُه

أَو تُحوِجُني أَقولُ ما عارِضُه

Far be it from you to say, 'An obstacle prevents me,'

Do not say some chance has stopped our meeting

Or force me to say, 'What is his obstacle?'

Or that I pretend not knowing why I'm here
