يُبَشِّرُنيbring me glad tidings قَومٌpeople بِرُتبَتِكَof your rank الَّتيwhich
تَمَنَّيتُI wished for فيهاin it السُؤلَthe heart’s desire حَتّىuntil لَقيتُهُI attained it
People bring me glad tidings of your rank,
People give me good news of your rank
In which I wished for my heart’s desire until I attained it.
which I wished to ask about until I met you,
فَبَشَّرتُso I gave glad tidings to نَفسيmyself بِالسُرورِof joy وَلَمand have not أَزَلceased
أُهَنّيI congratulate بِكَon you القَلبَthe heart الَّذيwhich أَنتَyou قوتُهُits sustenance
So I gave myself glad tidings of joy, and have never ceased
So I cheered my soul with joy and never ceased
Congratulating my heart on you—you are its sustenance.
to congratulate with you the heart of which you are its strength,
وَقُلتُand I said لَهُمto them أَعلىmay exalt الإِلَهُGod مَحَلَّهُhis station
وَهَذاand this دُعاءٌa prayer لَوif سَكَتُّI kept silent كُفيتُهُI would have been spared it
And I said to them, “May God exalt his station!”
And I said to them, may God elevate his rank,
And this is a prayer I would have been spared had I kept silent.
And this is a prayer that even if left unsaid, would have been enough.
