أَياO مَنyou who يَرُدُّwards off الفَقرَpoverty بِاللَومِwith blame جاهِداًstriving hard
أَيا مَن يَرُدُّ الفَقرَ بِاللَومِ جاهِداً
كَماjust as رَدَّهُhe repelled it يَوماًonce بِسَوءَتِهِwith his private parts عَمرُوʿAmr
كَما رَدَّهُ يَوماً بِسَوءَتِهِ عَمرُو
O you who strive to ward off poverty with blame,
as ʿAmr once repelled it with his private parts.
إِذاif كانَis هَذاthis سوءِwretchedness عَيشِكَyour life فيin الغِنىwealth
إِذا كانَ هَذا سوءِ عَيشِكَ في الغِنى
فَماذاthen what الَّذيthat which تَخشَىyou fear إِذاif مَسَّكَtouches you الفَقرُpoverty
فَماذا الَّذي تَخشَى إِذا مَسَّكَ الفَقرُ
If your life is this wretched in wealth,
then what do you fear if poverty touches you?
