My tears for you do not cease,

and the heart's malady cannot be charmed away.

    And the parched cheek, save

by the flow of tears, is not watered.

    Tears that parch the cheek,

and my eyelids are drowned in them.

Ah, O master of the slave,

by Him who made the slave yours:

if you do not decree that I be happy,

do not decree that I be wretched.

Give in charity what passes away,

and take the reward of the One who endures.

    And remind your swaying flank

and your buttocks of what I endure.

    Whoever fears will take heed,

and the most wretched will shun it.
