حَبيبي وافِرٌ وَالشَوقُ مِنّي

حَبيبي وافِرٌ وَالشَوقُ مِنّي

طَويلٌ وَالجَوى عِندي مَديدُ

طَويلٌ وَالجَوى عِندي مَديدُ

My beloved is amply endowed, and my longing

is long, while my heartache is prolonged.

وَأَعجَبُ أَنَّني أَهوى حُسيناً

وَأَعجَبُ أَنَّني أَهوى حُسيناً

وَوَجدي في مَحَبَّتِهِ يَزيدُ

وَوَجدي في مَحَبَّتِهِ يَزيدُ

And I marvel that I love Husayn,

while my passion for him increases.

كَتَمتُ الحُبَّ حَتّى عيلَ صَبي

كَتَمتُ الحُبَّ حَتّى عيلَ صَبي

وَكِتمانُ الهَوى صَعبٌ شَديدُ

وَكِتمانُ الهَوى صَعبٌ شَديدُ

I concealed love until my patience was exhausted.

And concealing passion is hard and arduous.

وَهَل يُخفي الغَرامَ حَليفُ وَجدٍ

وَهَل يُخفي الغَرامَ حَليفُ وَجدٍ

مَدامِعُهُ بِما يُخفي شُهودُ

مَدامِعُهُ بِما يُخفي شُهودُ

And can one bound to longing conceal love,

when his tearful eyes bear witness to what he hides?
