ما كانَ إِسحَقُ إِنساناً فَتَندُبَهُ

فَلا تَقُل ماتَ إِسحَقٌ وَقُل نَفَقا

فَلا تَقُل ماتَ إِسحَقٌ وَقُل نَفَقا

Ishaq was no human being, that you should mourn him.

So do not say, “Ishaq died”; say, “He perished like a beast.”

لا تَجنَحَنَّ إِلى حَيٍّ تُمايِلُهُ

لا تَجنَحَنَّ إِلى حَيٍّ تُمايِلُهُ

وَإِن جَنَحتَ إِلَيهِ فَاِتَّخِذ نَفَقا

وَإِن جَنَحتَ إِلَيهِ فَاِتَّخِذ نَفَقا

Never incline toward a living man, taking his side;

and if you incline toward him, make yourself a tunnel.
