ما كُلُّ مُحِبٍ سَمِعَ العَذلَ سَلا

ما كُلُّ مُحِبٍ سَمِعَ العَذلَ سَلا

A lover hears reproach for loving one like you.

In your likeness the lover hears blame

Not every lover who hears reproach ceases to love.

Not every lover has heard blameless grace

ما أَسمَعُهُ إِلّا لِأَزدادَ هَوىً

ما أَسمَعُهُ إِلّا لِأَزدادَ هَوىً

إِذ ذِكرُكَ كُلَّما أَعادوهُ حَلا

إِذ ذِكرُكَ كُلَّما أَعادوهُ حَلا

I listen to it only to grow more in love,

I hear it only to increase my love

For the mention of you grows sweeter whenever they repeat it.

For the mention of you, however often repeated, is sweet
