فيin الكيسِthe purse لاnot فيin الكَأسِthe cup ليI have قَهوَةٌwine
في الكيسِ لا في الكَأسِ لي قَهوَةٌ

مِن ذَوقِها أَسكَرُ أَو شَمَّها
I have a wine in the purse, not in the cup.
It's not wine I've got in my pocket, but coffee
I grow drunk from tasting it or smelling it.
Whose taste inebriates me, or just its aroma

تَستَنقِذُrescues الأَنفُسَthe souls مِنfrom هَمِّهاtheir distress
تَستَنقِذُ الأَنفُسَ مِن هَمِّها
Its benefit is evident; it brings elation
Its benefits are obvious, bringing joy
that rescues souls from their distress.
Saving souls from their sorrows and troubles
فَشُكرُهاso gratitude for it أَكثَرُgreater مِنthan سُكرِهاits intoxication
فَشُكرُها أَكثَرُ مِن سُكرِها
وَنَفعُهاand its benefit أَكثَرُgreater مِنthan إِثمِهاits sin
وَنَفعُها أَكثَرُ مِن إِثمِها
So gratitude for it is greater than its intoxication,
Thanking it is better than getting drunk on it
and its benefit is greater than its sin.
And its usefulness outweighs any sin
