ما تَرَكتُ العِتابَ يا مالِكَ الرِق

ما تَرَكتُ العِتابَ يا مالِكَ الرِق

قِ لِأَنّي قَد قَرَّ عَنكَ قَراري

I did not abandon reproach, O master of my bondage,

I have not ceased to reproach you, O master of my heart,

because I had found rest away from you;

Nor have I become content with you; far from it!

بَل تَعامَيتُ عَن ذُنوبِكَ خَوفاً

بَل تَعامَيتُ عَن ذُنوبِكَ خَوفاً

أَن أَرى فيكَ ذِلَّةَ الإِعتِذارِ

أَن أَرى فيكَ ذِلَّةَ الإِعتِذارِ

rather, I turned a blind eye to your sins, fearing

But I have feigned to ignore your sins out of fear

that I might see in you the humiliation of apologizing.
