الوَجهُthe face مِنكَof yours عَنِaway from الصَوابِwhat is right يُضِلُّنيleads me astray
وَإِذاand when ضَلَلتُI go astray فَإِنَّهُthen indeed it يَهدينيguides me
His face leads me astray from the path of right,
Your face leads me astray from what is right,
yet whenever I stray, it guides me.
and when I go astray, it guides me.
وَتُميتُنيand they kill me الأَلحاظُthe glances مِنكَfrom you بِنَظرَةٍwith a look
وَإِذاand if أَرَدتَyou wish بِنَظرَةٍwith a look تُحيِينيyou bring me to life
His glances kill me with a single look,
And your glances kill me with a look,
and, if you wish, with a single look you bring me back to life.
and if you wish, with a look you bring me to life.
وَكَذاكَand likewise مِنfrom مَرَضِsickness; languor الجُفونِthe eyelids بَلِيَّتيmy affliction
وَإِذاand when مَرِضتُI fall ill فَإِنَّهاthen indeed they تَشفينيheal me
Likewise, he who made my eyelids ache throughout my night—
Likewise, my affliction comes from the languor of your eyelids,
whenever I fall ill, they heal me.
and when I fall ill, they heal me.
فَلِذاكَso, for that reason أَشريI buy الوَصلَunion مِنكَfrom you بِمُهجَتيwith my lifeblood
وَأَبيعُand I sell دُنيائيmy worldly life بِذاكَfor that وَدينيand my faith
For that very reason, I buy union with him at the price of my soul,
So I buy union with you at the price of my lifeblood,
and sell for it my worldly life and my faith.
and for that I sell my worldly life and my faith.
