ماتَتhas died مَلاحَتُهُhis beauty يَكونُmay there be لَكَfor you البَقاlasting life
وَأَتىand came العِذارُthe cheek-down يَقولُsaying مَنwhoever عاشَlives اِلتَقىwill meet

وَبَداand appeared السَوادُthe blackness عَلىupon نَقاءِthe purity خُدودِهِhis cheeks

So its newness for her newness created
وَتَنَكَّرَتand became unfamiliar صِفَةُthe appearance الغُوَيرِal-Ghuwayr فَلَمso not يَكُنwas
ذاكَthat الغُوَيرَal-Ghuwayr وَلاnor النَقاal-Naqa (the sand dune) ذاكَthat النَقاal-Naqa (the sand dune)
And al-Ghuwayr’s appearance grew unfamiliar; no longer was
And the quality of passion changed so it was not
that al-Ghuwayr, nor was al-Naqa that same al-Naqa.
That passion nor that purity that purity
