تَوَقَّ مِنَ الناسِ فُحشَ الكَلامِ

تَوَقَّ مِنَ الناسِ فُحشَ الكَلامِ

فَكُلٌّ يَنالُ جَنى غَرسِهِ

فَكُلٌّ يَنالُ جَنى غَرسِهِ

Guard yourself against people's foul speech,

for everyone reaps the fruit of his own planting.

فَمَن جَرَّبَ الذَمَّ في عِرضِهِ

فَمَن جَرَّبَ الذَمَّ في عِرضِهِ

كَمَن جَرَّبَ السُمَّ في نَفسِهِ

كَمَن جَرَّبَ السُمَّ في نَفسِهِ

For whoever puts his honor to the test of abuse

is like one who tests poison on himself.
