لا تُهدِ شَيئاً لَم يَكُن حَسَناً

لا تُهدِ شَيئاً لَم يَكُن حَسَناً

أَو طُرفَةً عُدَّت مِنَ النَزرِ

أَو طُرفَةً عُدَّت مِنَ النَزرِ

Give nothing unless it is beautiful

Do not gift what was not good

Or a curiosity counted among rarities.

Or a whim counted as trivial

إِنَّ الهَديَّةَ في زِيارَتِها

إِنَّ الهَديَّةَ في زِيارَتِها

تُزري بِصاحِبِها وَلا يَدري

تُزري بِصاحِبِها وَلا يَدري

For a gift, when it comes calling,

Indeed a gift during a visit

Reflects poorly on its giver, though he is unaware.

Reflects upon its giver though he knows not
