العَفوُ مِنكَ مِنِ اِعتِذارِيَ أَقرَبُ

العَفوُ مِنكَ مِنِ اِعتِذارِيَ أَقرَبُ

وَالصَفحُ عَن زَلَلي بِحِلمِكَ أَنسَبُ

وَالصَفحُ عَن زَلَلي بِحِلمِكَ أَنسَبُ

Pardon from you is nearer at hand than my apology;

Forgiveness from You is closer than my apology

And overlooking my lapse better befits your forbearance.

And pardoning my mistakes with Your forbearance is more fitting

عُذري صَريحٌ غَيرَ أَنِّيَ مُقسِمٌ

عُذري صَريحٌ غَيرَ أَنِّيَ مُقسِمٌ

لا قُلتُ عُذراً غَيرَ أَنّي مُذنِبُ

لا قُلتُ عُذراً غَيرَ أَنّي مُذنِبُ

My excuse is plain, yet I swear:

My excuse is evident, except I swear

I will offer no excuse save that I am guilty.

I have no excuse other than that I am guilty

يا مَن نَمُتُّ إِلى عُلاهُ بِأَنَّنا

يا مَن نَمُتُّ إِلى عُلاهُ بِأَنَّنا

في طَيِّ نِعمَةِ مُلكِهِ نَتَقَلَّبُ

في طَيِّ نِعمَةِ مُلكِهِ نَتَقَلَّبُ

O you to whose eminence we are linked, in that we

O He to whose loftiness we ascend for we

Live enfolded in the bounty of his reign.

Move about in the good fortune of His kingdom

إِنّي لَأَعجَبُ مِن وُقوعِ خَطِيَّتي

إِنّي لَأَعجَبُ مِن وُقوعِ خَطِيَّتي

وَلَئِن جُزيتُ بِها فَذَلِكَ أَعجَبُ

وَلَئِن جُزيتُ بِها فَذَلِكَ أَعجَبُ

I marvel indeed that I should have sinned;

Truly, I wonder at my sin falling

And if I am punished for it, that is more astonishing still.

And if I am punished for it, that is more wondrous
