عَينُAyn (spring) البُرودِal-Burud (place-name element) بُرودُthe coolness of عَينيmy eye
إِنif عَزَّis hard to attain مَنظَرُthe sight of رَأسِRas (head) عَينِAyn (spring)
Ayn al-Burud is the coolness of my eye,
The coolness of my eyes is in the coolness of her eyes
if the sight of Ras Ayn is hard to attain.
If the sight of her eyes brings joy
فَلَوِso if اِستَطَعتُI could لَزُرتُهاI would visit it
سَعياًhastening عَلىon رَأسيmy head وَعَينيand my eye
So, if I could, I would visit it,
I would visit if I were able
hastening on my head and my eye.
For the sake of my head and eyes

A land whose blossoms are adorned
A land whose flowers bloom
by the overflow of river and spring.
Watered from a river and spring

with early-season showers and unceasing rain.
Through fragrant groves and springs

It is as though the splendor of its roses
As if the radiance of its roses
were a sun gazing at it with an eye.
Were lit by the sun's gaze

And it is as though its garden's narcissi
And as if its meadow's narcissi
had been fashioned from silver and gold.
Were molded from leaves and springs

So even if its abode turns me back,
And though its distances deter me
and the foe watches me through a spy,
As enemies lie in wait for me
لاnot أَنثَنيI turn away عَنهاfrom it وَلاnor

Consolation after losing sight of it
