يَميسُ مِن عُجبِهِ كَالشارِبِ الثَمِلِ
And a black steed with snow-white stockings, full of spirit,
A bright-bay, flicking-off the tent ropes, playfully prancing,
Swaying with pride like a drunken drinker,
Swaying tipsily with pride, like a wine-filled flask,
مُطَهَّمٍwell-built مُشرِفِerect الأُذنَينِthe two ears تَحسَبُهُyou would think him

مُوَكَّلاً بِاِستِراقِ السَمعِ عَن زُحَلِ
Well-built, with ears erect—you would think him
With ears pricked forward, you’d think him charged to stealthily eavesdrop,
Charged with eavesdropping on Saturn.
I rode him one night, traveling on him like stars overtaking planets,
رَكِبتُI rode مِنهُin him مَطاthe back of ليلٍa night تَسيرُmove along بِهِwith him
رَكِبتُ مِنهُ مَطا ليلٍ تَسيرُ بِهِ

كَواكِبٌ تُلحِقُ المَحمولَ بِالحَمَلِ
In him I rode the back of a night, borne onward
When I launched arrows over his withers,
By stars that bring the rider to Aries, the Ram.
They slid over his shoulders and landed by his ankles.

Whenever I shoot my arrows from his back,
They pass his neck and fall upon his rump.
