And a slender youth, more radiant than the moon,
Moon-like, more radiant than the moon,
Captured my heart with his bewitching gaze.
The moon of my heart with the charms of its glance,
خالستهI stole from him تفاحَapples وجنتهhis cheek
فأخذتُهاso I took them منهfrom him علىat غَرَرِrisk
I stole from him the apples of his cheek,
Its dimples are apples and its cheeks a garden,
And took them from him at my peril.
So I stole it unawares,

لاno قطعamputation فيfor ثَمَرٍfruit ولاnor كَثَرِpalm pith
Then some people frightened me, so I said to them:
Then some people made me afraid, and I said to them,
“No hand is cut off for fruit or palm pith.”
No cutting the fruit, nor depriving it overmuch.
