إذا ما كنتَ طَالِبَ كُلِّ ذَنبٍ

ولم تُحلِل أخَاكَ من العِتَابِ

ولم تُحلِل أخَاكَ من العِتَابِ

If you seek out every fault,

If you seek every fault

and do not release your brother from reproach,

And do not absolve your brother of blame

تباعَدَ مَن تباعد بَعدَ قٌربٍ

تباعَدَ مَن تباعد بَعدَ قٌربٍ

وصار بك الزَّمانُ إلى اجتِنَابِ

وصار بك الزَّمانُ إلى اجتِنَابِ

whoever draws away will do so after closeness,

He who was once near will distance himself

and time will lead you into estrangement.

And time itself will begin to avoid you
