رأيتُ الشَّرَّ تَحقِرُه فَيَنمى
كإفعَامِlike the swelling السُّيولِthe torrents مِنfrom الشِّعابِthe ravines
كإفعَامِ السُّيولِ مِن الشِّعابِ
I have seen evil—you deem it slight, and it grows,
I have seen evil: you belittle it, and so it grows,
like torrents swelling to overflowing from mountain ravines.
