And for death mothers nourish their lambs,

Just as dwellings are built for houses to fall to ruin.

I marvel at the world and at my condemning its pleasures,

While my love for it lies hidden in the heart’s innermost recess.

And at my saying, “Protect me, my Lord, from every temptation,”

Yet I am enamored of whatever in it is alluring.
