وَأَضلُعُهُ مِمّا يُحاوِلُهُ صِفرُ
Who will defend me against a merry youth displaying sorrow,
My companion from Jadhalan shows sadness
though his ribs are empty of what he tries to portray?
And his ribs are yellow from what he is attempting

A tender, swaying youth—when the east wind leads him
A gentle palm tree leaning when the breeze leads it
to the delights of coquetry, enchantment comes to his aid.
To the sweetness of pampering, magic supports it

He moistens the inner corners of his two blossoms with his spittle,
It wets the cups of its flowers with its nectar
and deliberately mimics weeping, just as blossoms smile.
And narrates weeping intentionally as the flowers smiled
أَيوهِمُdoes he make one believe? أَنَّthat الدَمعَtears بَلَّwetted جُفونَهُhis eyelids

Would he have us believe that tears have wet his eyelids?
Does it pretend that tears wet its eyelids?
And has wine ever been pressed from narcissi?
Has wine ever been extracted from the narcissus flower?
