نَسيمٌ تَجارى عَلى مَشرَبِه
And a garden where the eye’s rust was polished away
In a meadow whose freshness delights the eye
by a breeze that coursed over its watering place.
A breeze passes gently over its drinking-place

عَلَيهِ فَخاضَت حَشا مِذنَبِه
A pine, its stem mounted
A pine-tree whose trunk is erected
upon it, plunged into the heart of its watercourse.
Bows over it and in the water dips its crown

بِها الماءُ قَد جَدَّ في مَسكَبِه
So I likened it, together with its pipes—
I fancied it, with its boughs and its twigs
the water rushing through them as it poured out—
Was like a flask whose water flows from its neck

to a speckled snake that had made a coil of its body,
Like a mother-ostrich sheltering
with its young clinging to it.
Her fledglings clinging close to her
