What ails my eye, its tears streaming,

Because of encampments whose tents stand?

And Ṣadūf could once be seen there,

Like the sun, her radiance without a veil.

Loose sand of desert plains, with desert reaches of their own.

    You, when the snow descends—

Snow and a cold, damp wind with a biting chill—

Their bustard fled with a rustle.

I came to water while night hung its curtains.

And the rider of fate, and the rider behind,

Has destroyed generations, preceded by generations,

On sturdy she-camels whose pace is swift.
