يا مصرُ أنتِ أرضُ كل مُعجزه

كم فيكِ من آثار فخرٍ مُنجزه

O Egypt, you are the land of every miracle.

How many accomplished monuments of glory you hold!

قد عُدتِ كالعصر القديم مُنتزه

لله إسماعيلُ فيما أبرزه

You have become a pleasure garden again, as in ancient times.

God bless Ismail for what he has brought forth

في حيِّز الوجودِ فوقَ الحدِّ

يدومُ فخره كما الأهرامْ

Into existence, beyond all bounds.

His glory endures like the pyramids.

ولم يزل يَقرنُ بالتحدِّي

بدايعاً صحيحة المرامْ

And he ever couples with challenge

Marvels whose aims are sound.

يعيشُ إسماعيلُ ربُّ المجدِ

على مَدى الأجيالِ والأعوامْ

Long live Ismail, lord of glory,

Through generations and years.

ما أنتِ إلا روضةٌ بَهيَّة

شمسُ عُلاك بالسَّنا زَهيَّهْ

You are nothing but a splendid garden.

The sun of your eminence glows with radiance.

بالنيل خصبُ أرضك الزكيه

قد سطعتْ أخبارُك السنيهْ

Through the Nile comes the fertility of your pure land.

Your glorious tidings have shone forth.

شعاعُها انبثت بأرضِ الهندِ

والصينِ والرومِ وأرضِ الشامْ

Their radiance spread across the land of India,

And China, the Roman lands, and the land of the Levant.

لما انطفا النورُ بدهرٍ مُردِي

قد سَخر المولى له محام

When the light went out in a ruinous age,

The Lord appointed a defender for it.

Through generations and years.

عقلٌ وحيدٌ لا تُجاريه الرجالْ

يحولُ في سَبق العُلا أعلى مجالْ

A peerless mind that men cannot match

Ranges in the highest arena of the race for eminence.

محمدُّ الاسمِ عليٌّ في الفِعالْ

أنار أفقَ مصرَ شبهَ الهلالْ

Muhammad by name, Ali—exalted—in deeds,

He lit Egypt's horizon like the crescent.

مذ قام بالحفيد سرُّ الجدِّ

فبدرُه جَلى دُجَى الظلامْ

Since the grandfather's secret arose in the grandson,

His full moon dispelled the gloom of darkness.

فكرٌ منيرٌ من أميرِ جُندِ

صيَّر جيشَ الجهل في انهزامْ

A luminous thought from a commander of troops

Put the army of ignorance to flight.

Through generations and years.

لما اصطفى الجليلُ إسماعيلا

لملك مصر سيِّداً كَفيلا

When the Majestic One chose Ismail

As lord and guardian of Egypt's realm,

وأشبهتْ طفلا غدا عَليلا

عدَّلها بطبِّه تَعديلا

And she resembled a child fallen ill,

He thoroughly set her right with his medicine.

بعدلِ قانونٍ وعَقْدِ بَنْدِ

أزال جَورَ الحكم والحُكّامْ

Through just law and the enactment of a clause,

He removed the injustice of rule and rulers.

ونسخَ الرخصةَ والتعدي

وانقادَ للأصول والأحكام

And abolished license and transgression,

And submitted to principles and laws.

يعيش إسماعيل رب المجدِ

على مدى الأجيال والأعوام

Long live Ismail, lord of glory,

Through generations and years.

بنى على العدل أساسَ مُلكهْ

ونظمَ الفنونَ ضِمنَ سِلكه

He built the foundation of his rule on justice,

And strung the arts upon his strand.

وعظَّمَ العلمَ وأهلَ نُسْكهِ

ذُو العقل إن يفحْ عبيرَ مِسكه

And exalted learning and its devoted practitioners.

The man of reason, if his musk's fragrance wafts

بطيب في التشويق كل جهد

نعز لدى الأمير بالإكرام

With sweetness in encouraging every effort,

We are esteemed before the prince with honor.

يبذل في التشويق كلَّ جهدِ

بقدرِ حظِ الفضل في السهام

He exerts every effort in encouragement,

In proportion to merit's share in the allotments.

يعيش إسماعيل ربُّ المجد

على مدى الأجيال والأعوام

Long live Ismail, lord of glory,

Through generations and years.

حَلَّى جبينَ مجمعِ البحرينِ

بتاج عزّ رائقٍ للعَينِ

He adorned the brow of the meeting of the two seas

With a crown of glory pleasing to the eye.

وقبله كان كلا الشطين

يَلطمُ خدَّ الماءِ بالكفين

And before it, both shores were

Striking the water's cheek with both hands.

فذلك التاجُ قرينُ سَعد

يلمعُ فوقَ الماء كالحسام

Thus that crown is paired with good fortune,

Shining above the water like a sword.

يدعُو لإسماعيل ربُّ الرشدِ

بنصرةِ البنود والأعْلام

It prays for Ismail, lord of sound judgment,

For the victory of banners and standards.

يعيش إسماعيل ربُّ المجدِ

على مدى الأجيال والأعوام

Long live Ismail, lord of glory,

Through generations and years.

لما رَقى ذُر العلا وصَعدا

لم يترك الأهواءْ في الناس سُدى

When he climbed the heights of eminence and rose,

He did not leave the people's passions aimless.

عطفهم رفقاً بهم صوبَ الهدى

كلفهم بأن يحوزوا السؤددا

He gently turned them toward right guidance,

And charged them to attain preeminence.

فالعقلُ في عهد العزيز مُهدَى

نحوَ العلوم لا إلى الأوهامْ

Thus reason, in the mighty ruler's reign, is guided

Toward the sciences, not toward illusions.

وإنما تمامُ هذا القصد

توسيعُهُ دوائرَ الأفهام

And the fulfillment of this aim is

His broadening of the spheres of understanding.

يعيش إسماعيل رب المجدِ

Long live Ismail, lord of glory,

Through generations and years.

لم يفتخرْ بزهرة الإماره

بل رامَ بالرعية افتخاره

He did not take pride in the flower of princely power,

Rather, he sought his pride in his subjects.

وَضَعَ بنيه بينهم إشاره

لفكِّ قيد الذل والحقاره

He placed his sons among them as a sign

To break the fetter of humiliation and abasement.

فحسبُهم فكاكُ هذا القيدِ

وعتقهم مِن زِلة الأقدام

For them, the breaking of this fetter suffices,

And their release from the stumbling of feet.

فأعلنوا بشكره والحمد

ما أحسنَ الشكر على الإنعام

So they proclaimed thanks and praise to him.

How beautiful is gratitude for beneficence!

يعيش إسماعيل ربُّ المجدِ

على مدى الأجيال والأعوام

Long live Ismail, lord of glory,

Through generations and years.

قد لهجتْ بمدحه اللغاتُ

ورددت نشيدَه الأصواتُ

Languages have eagerly voiced his praises,

And voices repeated his anthem.

لم يَروِ مثلَ فخرِه الرواةُ

عن ملكٍ شهمٍ له هِباتُ

Narrators have never told of glory like his

In a noble-minded king whose gifts

تجعل هنداً في النُّهى كزيدِ

والدرسُ للأُنثى كما الغُلامْ

Make Hind like Zayd in intellect.

And instruction is for the girl as for the boy.

من بعد أسرها بقيدِ وَغدِ

بالعلم حازتْ صفةَ احترام

After her captivity in a wretch's fetter,

Through learning she attained a status of respect.

يعيش إسماعيل رب المجد

على مدى الأجيال والأعوام

Long live Ismail, lord of glory,

Through generations and years.

وبالحنان الأبويِّ رتَّبا

تربيةَ البناتِ من عهد الصِّبا

And with fatherly tenderness he arranged

The education of girls from childhood.

يقضين من حقِّ النهى ما وجبا

يحرزنَ عِلماً نافعاً وأدبا

They fulfill what is due to the claims of reason,

Acquiring useful knowledge and refinement.

تشملهن منه عينُ الرشد

ونجدةُ العزمِ والاهتمام

From him, the eye of guidance watches over them,

And the aid of resolve and care,

حتى يصلنَ بعقول النقدِ

لقوة التفهم والإفهام

Until, with discerning minds, they reach

The power to understand and impart understanding.

يعيش إسماعيل رب المجد

على مدى الأجيال والأعوام

Long live Ismail, lord of glory,

Through generations and years.

في عهده كلُّ الرعايا فرِحتْ

لأنه وَافى على ما اقترحتْ

In his reign all the subjects rejoiced,

Because he fulfilled what they had proposed.

وروح جده بها انشرحتْ

كأنها من الضريحِ سَرحتْ

And his grandfather's spirit rejoiced in her,

As though it had roamed forth from the tomb,

مُضيئةَ الجبينِ فوقَ طودٍ

سامى الذرا عن سائر الأعلام

With radiant brow above a mountain

Whose peaks towered above all other mountains,

تنظرُ من أعلى بغير عدِّ

عجائباً لم تُحصَ بالأقلام

Looking from above, beyond all counting, at

Marvels that pens could not enumerate.

Long live Ismail, lord of glory,

Through generations and years.

نادتْ بالاستعجاب أيها الحفيدْ

ما أنت في كَسْب العلا إلا فريدْ

It cried in wonder: O grandson,

You are peerless in winning eminence.

ما أعجز الملوكَ في الدهر المديدِ

وافاك بالتدبير والفكر السديد

What baffled kings throughout the long ages

Came to you through planning and sound thought.

أحييتَ مجداً من قَرارِ لِحد

وعِظَماً كان مع العِظامْ

You revived glory from the depths of a grave,

And greatness that lay among the bones.

وهكذا النجلُ النجيبُ يُبدي

عظائمَ الأسلافِ باقتحام

Thus the noble son reveals

His forebears' mighty deeds through daring.

يعيش إسماعيل رب المجد

على مدى الأجيال والأعوام

Long live Ismail, lord of glory,

Through generations and years.

بمدحِك اهتزتْ ضروبُ النغمِ

انعشتْ الملوكُ بعدَ العدمِ

Modes of melody stirred at your praise.

Kings revived after extinction.

لما رأوْا عجائبَ التقدمِ

إعجابهم ما كان بالمكتتمِ

When they saw the wonders of progress,

Their admiration was not concealed.

فاجتمعوا بالعودِ قبل العودَ

لينشدوا مدحاً على الأنغام

So they gathered with the lute before returning,

To sing praise to the melodies.

وأجمعوا على مليكٍ فردِ

مؤيدٍ بالسلم والسلام

And they agreed upon a peerless king,

Supported by concord and peace.

يعيش إسماعيل رب المجد

على مدى الأجيالِ والأعوام

Long live Ismail, lord of glory,

Through generations and years.

عشْ في أمانِ الله يا أبهى أميرْ

مشرفاً تاج المعالي والسرير

Live in God's protection, O most splendid prince,

Honoring the crown of eminence and the throne.

تاريخُ هذا الجيل والعصرِ الأخير

يدعُوك مع أعلى الملوك بالنظير

The history of this generation and the latest age

Calls you a peer of the highest kings.

أنت الوحيدُ في العلاَ والجد

وفي المساعي ثابتُ الأقدامِ

You are peerless in eminence and endeavor,

And firm-footed in endeavor.

عش في أمان اللهِ دون ضِدِّ

أعدْت عصرَ الذهب الإسلامي

Live in God's protection, without an adversary.

You have restored Islam's golden age.

على مَدى الأجيال والأعوام

Long live Ismail, lord of glory,

Through generations and years.

عشْ في أمان الله يا من أعلى

لأهل مِصره مقاماً أعلى

Live in God's protection, O you who raised

For the people of his Egypt a loftier station.

مذ كنتَ للرأفة فيهم أهلا

صرتَ من الأب الشفيق أولى

Since you proved fit to show compassion among them,

You became worthier than a tender father.

فأنت للكل أبٌ في الودِّ

أنتَ الولي والنصيرُ الحامي

For you are a father to everyone in affection.

You are the guardian and supporter, the protector.

بالرفق قد فقتَ وصدقِ الوعد

فصرتَ محبوباً لدى الأنام

You excelled in gentleness and keeping promises true,

And became beloved among humankind.

يعيش إسماعيل رب المجد

على مَدى الأجيال والأعوام

Long live Ismail, lord of glory,

Through generations and years.

تدعوكَ أوربا مع الرعايا

بنعمةِ الله على البرايا

Europe, together with the subjects, calls you

A blessing from God upon creation,

عطيةٌ من أجزالِ العطايا

إيطاليا قد حازتِ المزايا

A gift among the most generous gifts.

Italy has gained distinction

بِدرُ مَدحٍ للجناب تُهدى

لمحض إجلالٍ مع احتشامْ

With pearls of praise offered to the august presence,

Out of pure reverence, with respectful reserve.

قد رام جمعَ أهلها يُؤدي

فرائضَ الحب بشعرٍ سامْ

Its assembled people wished to fulfill

The duties of love in lofty poetry:

بعيش إسماعيل رب المجد

على مدى الأجيال والأعوام

To the life of Ismail, lord of glory,

Through generations and years.

أهدوا إليك هذه الطرائِفا

فريدُ دُرٍّ في حِماك طائفا

They presented these rarities to you,

A peerless pearl circling within your sanctuary.

في ضمنه قد أودعوا لطائفا

تُحيرُ الألبابَ والمعارفا

Within it they placed subtle beauties

That bewilder minds and knowledge.

تجل عن تسويمها بنقدٍ

جواهراً بديعةَ النظام

Too exalted to be priced in coin:

Jewels exquisitely arranged.

يسمو شعاعُ نورها الممتد

يَزْهو بنور وَجهك البسام

The spreading ray of their light rises high,

Glorying in the light of your smiling face.

يعيش إسماعيل رب المجد

على مدى الأجيال والأعوام

Long live Ismail, lord of glory,

Through generations and years.

لما عهدتَ الودَّ مني صَافيا

وصِدقَ حُبي في الجناب وافيا

Since you knew my affection to be pure,

And my sincere love for the august presence to be complete,

نظمتُ في المدح له قوافيا

إن تحظ بالقبولِ كان كافيا

I composed rhymes in praise of him.

If they win acceptance, that will suffice.

يُرضى المحبَّ في ارتباطِ الود

بشاهدٍ على الوداد النامي

It satisfies the lover in the bond of affection,

With a testament to growing affection.

فشاهدُ الود كطعم الشهد

أو وَصْلِ حَبل العهدِ والذمام

For a sign of affection is like the taste of honey,

Or joining the cord of covenant and obligation.
