وقلتُ لما بَدوا والكأسُ في يده

وقلتُ لما بَدوا والكأسُ في يده

وجوهرُ الخمر فيها شبهُ خديْه

وجوهرُ الخمر فيها شبهُ خديْه

And I said, when they appeared, the cup in his hand,

And I said, when the cup appeared in his hand,

And the wine's essence within it resembled his cheeks:

And the essence of wine in it resembled his cheeks,

حَسْبي نزاهةُ طرفي في محاسنه

حَسْبي نزاهةُ طرفي في محاسنه

ونشوتي من معاني سحر عينيه

ونشوتي من معاني سحر عينيه

The purity of my gaze upon his charms suffices me,

The chastity of my gaze on his beauty suffices me,

And my intoxication comes from the subtleties of his eyes' enchantment.

And my elation from the meanings of the magic of his eyes.
