طاف الفراش بمونق الزهر

I circled around you in the darkness, as

butterflies circle the lovely blossoms.

وينام أهلك ملء أعينهم

وأهيم حتى مطلع الفجر

And your household sleeps soundly,

while I wander lovelorn until the break of dawn.

ما قرّ لي جنب ولا هدأت

مني الجراح وخانني صبري

My side has found no rest, nor have

my wounds grown quiet; my patience has betrayed me.

لي في الهوى كبد مقطعة

تكوى بنار الصد والهجر

In love, I have a liver torn to pieces,

seared by the fire of rejection and abandonment.

يا مي حبك في دمي يجري

ولأنت كل مناي من دهري

O Mayy, your love flows in my blood,

and you are indeed all I ask of life.

لا تعتبي أني أذيع هوى

قد ضاق عن كتمانه صدري

Do not reproach me for revealing a love

my breast has grown too narrow to conceal.

أودى المقام به وما يدري

will you, grieving, remember your young man?

I would indeed be content with remembrance from you.

إني سأبقى خالداً أبداً

ما دمت في شفتيك والفكر

I shall indeed remain immortal forever,

as long as I remain upon your lips and in your thoughts.
