    عنها مبسم عذب

  3. هنا قد غفل الدهر

    فلا سلم ولا حرب

    Here time has grown heedless,

    so there is neither peace nor war.

  4. هنا ضاع الشباب سدى

    وشاخ وأقفر القلب

    Here youth was lost in vain,

    and the heart grew old and desolate.

  5. هنا في كوخي النائي

    أعاني اليأسَ والبرحا

    Here in my remote hut,

    I suffer despair and anguish.

  6. هنا في غرفة الكهان

    أبدو في الدجا شبحا

    Here in the priests' chamber,

    I appear in the darkness as a phantom.

  7. هنا شيعت أحلامي

    وعفت الناي والقدحا

    Here I bade my dreams a funeral farewell,

    and spurned the reed flute and the goblet.

  8. هنا مات الهوى ونسيت

    من حل ومن نزحا

    Here love died, and I forgot

    who settled and who moved away.

  9. هنا قد خيم الصمتُ

    وساد البلدة القفرا

    Here silence has settled,

    and reigned over the desolate town.

  10. وهذا العالم الميَتُ

    خلا حتى من الذكرى

    And this dead world

    is empty even of memory.

  11. على هامش هذا الكون

    أضحى عيشنا صفرا

    At the margin of this universe,

    our life has become nothing.

  12. هنا ملّ المقام فتى

    الحياة ولم يطق صبرا

    Here, staying wearied the youth

    of life, and he could not bear it patiently.
