She said, "I fear prison for you." I said to her,

"For my people's sake, prison's darkness is worn as a cloak.

If they confined the rooms within the prison

To being prisons, the rooms would tear themselves down.

Yet they hope to welcome a guest within them:

A free man, so that honor may bloom throughout them."

She said, "Our green orchards have been blasted apart.

When will the flowers they blasted apart return?"

    غداً تزخُّ إلى أن يُزهرَ الأسَفُ

    I said, "Look: clouds still remain in our sky;

Tomorrow they will pour down until sorrow blooms."

She said, "I dreamed of a child; I do not want him to have

An imprisoned father." So I said, "The ruling power secludes itself.

Do you dream of a child whose father's heart

Is a slave? I shield you from a slave who has offspring."
