Who will comfort an eye that saw a visiting phantom,

Standing thus over us, standing still,

Visiting late at night, he came by and offered greetings,

Then turned away, stirring a frail heart.

Would that my soul—and would that the souls of my people—

O Yazid of bounty, might shield you from death.

    An ʿAtki, a Muhallabi, noble,

Hatim-like, he has attained a lofty summit.
