For whom are the homes as if they were never inhabited
south of Asnumah, then at the rocky rise of al-'Unsul?
At the ridge of a withering southern mountain —Stop, O wild ass!

Their landmarks have been effaced yet the outline remains

She meets you with her charm and coquetry
and gives him noon-rest in the heart of a verdant meadow.
And tires you with the secrets of an enervating meadow

Until his flesh wasted, not desisting

and think of descending, leaving his bell.
And covet her bell in his decline

quarry—whoever creeps toward game moves stealthily—
Hunter stalking his prey in stealth

Days gone by when even iron goes to ruin
my youthful vigor and movements captivated lovely women.

And on what shall I ride if I do not accept the challenge?

Why not ask — and the best of people have —
and asking cures your error when you falter.
And healing for your sickness in asking is to ask

فَعَلى سَوائِمِنا ثَقيلِ المَحمَلِ
And when an assumed blood-debt burdens its bearer,
When the burdens weigh down their bearers
its heavy load falls upon our grazing herds.
It is on our camels, heavy-laden, they are loaded
وَيَحِقُّand is due فيin أَموالِناour wealth لِحَليفِناto our ally
وَيَحِقُّ في أَموالِنا لِحَليفِنا

Even if he does not request it
