يا مَن لِعَذّالَة لَومي مجتها

يا مَن لِعَذّالَة لَومي مجتها

وَلَو أَصابَت سَداداً لِاِتَّقَت عَذلي

وَلَو أَصابَت سَداداً لِاِتَّقَت عَذلي

O, who will deal with a woman who reproaches me—[final word unclear]?

O you who blame me for squandering,

And had she found sound judgment, she would have avoided reproaching me.

If I had spent wisely, I would have avoided your rebuke.

تَقولُ أَهلَكتَ مالاً لَو قَنِعتَ بِهِ

تَقولُ أَهلَكتَ مالاً لَو قَنِعتَ بِهِ

أَغناكَ عَن طولِ تِرحال وَعَن عَمَلِ

أَغناكَ عَن طولِ تِرحال وَعَن عَمَلِ

She says, “You squandered wealth which, had you been content with it,

You say, "You wasted wealth; if you were content with it,

would have spared you long journeys and toil.”

It would have spared you long travels and toil."

وَما المَلامَةُ في شَيءٍ وُقيتُ بِهِ

وَما المَلامَةُ في شَيءٍ وُقيتُ بِهِ

عِرضي وَباعَدَني مِن شائِنِ النَحلِ

عِرضي وَباعَدَني مِن شائِنِ النَحلِ

And what blame is there in something that safeguarded

Yet there is no blame in that which shielded

my honor and kept me far from the disgrace of stinginess [reading uncertain]?

My honor and kept me from the evils of people.
