غس الشباب اديب قبل تأديب

غس الشباب اديب قبل تأديب

He in whom I saw the literary arts embodied in a man,

When I saw in a man good manners and politeness

[Tender] in youth, a man of letters before instruction.

While still a youth before training in etiquette

قد قلت للدهر مذ نادى بفرقتنا

Indeed, I said to Time when it called for our parting:
