يَقولونَ لَيلى بِالعِراقِ مَريضَةٌ
فَأَقبَلتُso I came مِنfrom مِصرٍEgypt إِلَيهاto her أَعودُهاI visit her in her illness
فَأَقبَلتُ مِن مِصرٍ إِلَيها أَعودُها
They say Layla lies ill in Iraq;
They say Layla is ill in Iraq.
so I have come from Egypt to visit her.
So I came to her from Egypt to visit her in her illness.
فَوَاللَهِand by God ماnot أَدريI know إِذاwhen أَناI جِئتُهاI come to her
فَوَاللَهِ ما أَدري إِذا أَنا جِئتُها
أَأُبرِئُهاwill I cure her? مِنof دائِهاher illness أَمor أَزيدُهاI make her worse
أَأُبرِئُها مِن دائِها أَم أَزيدُها
By God, I do not know, when I reach her,
And by God, I do not know, when I come to her,
whether I shall cure her sickness—or make it worse.
whether I will cure her of her illness or make her worse.
