شُغِفَwas smitten الفُؤادُthe heart بِجارَةِwith the female neighbor of الجَنبِthe adjoining side
شُغِفَ الفُؤادُ بِجارَةِ الجَنبِ
فَظَلِلتُso I remained ذاfull of أَسَفٍsorrow وَذاand full of كَربِanguish
فَظَلِلتُ ذا أَسَفٍ وَذا كَربِ
The heart was smitten with the woman next door.
So I remained full of sorrow and anguish.
ياO جارَتيmy female neighbor أَمسَيتِyou have become مالِكَةًmistress of
يا جارَتي أَمسَيتِ مالِكَةً
روحيmy soul وَغالِيَةًand precious عَلىto لُبّيmy mind
روحي وَغالِيَةً عَلى لُبّي
O my neighbor, you have become mistress of
my soul, and precious to my mind.
