أَأَترُكُshall I leave? لَيلىLayla لَيسَthere is not بَينيbetween me وَبَينَهاand between her
سِوىexcept لَيلَةٍone night إِنّيindeed I إِذاًthen لَصَبورُsurely very patient
Shall I leave Layla, when nothing lies between me and her
Shall I leave Layla when between us lies
but a single night? Then I am very patient indeed.
Only a night - though patient I would be?
هَبونيconsider me اِمرَأًa man مِنكُمfrom among you أَضَلَّlost بَعيرَهُhis camel
لَهُfor him ذِمَّةٌa claim to protection إِنَّindeed الذِمامَthe bond of protection كَبيرُgreat
Consider me a man among you who has lost his camel:
Send me, my friends, the man whose camel strays,
he is owed protection; indeed, the bond of protection is weighty.
For he's obliged - great is a neighbor's claim.
وَلِلصاحِبُand for the companion المَتروكُthe abandoned أَعظَمُgreater حُرمَةٌregard

And an abandoned companion is owed greater regard
The man whose beast is lost has sacred dues
by a companion than a camel that goes astray.
O'er him whose camel wanders not astray.
عَفاmay pardon اللَهُGod عَنwith regard to لَيلىLayla الغَداةَthis morning فَإِنَّهاfor indeed she
إِذاwhen وَلِيَتtakes charge of حُكماًjudgment عَلَيَّover me تَجورُacts unjustly
May God pardon Layla this morning, for she,
Allah forgive fair Layla in the dawn,
when she sits in judgment over me, acts unjustly.
For should she judge, oppressively she'd rule.
