فَياso, oh لَيتَwould that لَيلىLayla وَافَقَتshe attended كُلَّevery حَجَّةٍpilgrimage
قَضاءًas an obligation عَلىupon لَيلىLayla وَأَنّيand that I رَفيقُهاher companion
Oh, would that Layla attended every pilgrimage,
Oh, if only Layla would agree with every argument
as a duty laid upon Layla, and I were her companion.
To decide for Layla while I am her companion
فَتَجمَعَناthen it brings us together مِنfrom نَخلَتَينِNakhaltayn ثَنِيَّةٌa mountain pass
يَغَصُّis choked بِأَعضادِwith the shoulders of المَطِيِّthe riding camels طَريقُهاits road
Then a mountain pass from Nakhaltayn would bring us together,
So we could meet between two bent palm trees
its road choked with the shoulders of riding camels.
With a path crowded by the saddles of the riding camels
فَأَلقاكِthen I meet you عِندَat الرُكنِthe Corner أَوor جانِبَbeside الصَفاal-Safa
وَيَشغَلَand distracts عَنّاfrom us أَهلَthe people of مَكَّةَMecca سوقُهاits market
Then I would meet you at the Corner or beside al-Safa,
I would meet you at the corner or beside As-Safa
and its market would distract the people of Mecca from us.
And the market of Makkah would distract people from us
فَأُنشِدُهاthen I implore her أَنto تَجزِيَshe requites الهَونَmeekness وَالهَوىand love
وَتَمنَحَand she grants نَفساًa soul طالَlasted long مَطلاًin deferment حُقوقُهاits rights
Then I would implore her to requite meekness and love,
I would recite to her to reward the affection and love
and grant a soul its long-deferred rights.
And grant a soul whose rights have long been denied
