أَياO ناعِيَيtwo heralds of the death of لَيلىLayla بِجانِبِbeside هَضبَةٍa hill
أَماnot? (question) كانَwas يَنعاهاannouncing her death إِلَيَّto me سِواكُماanyone other than you two
O you two who announce Layla’s death beside a hill,
O callers of Layla by the hillside
Was there no one but you two to announce her death to me?
Shouldn't he have called to me except for both of you
وَياand O ناعِيَيtwo heralds of the death of لَيلىLayla بِجانِبِbeside هَضبَةٍa hill
فَمَنwho, then بَعدِafter لَيلىLayla لاmay not أُمِرَّتbe made firm قُواكُماthe strength of you both
And O you two who announce Layla’s death beside a hill,
O callers of Layla by the hillside
Who, then, is left after Layla? May your strength never be made firm!
After Layla, who wouldn't be bothered by both of you
وَياand O ناعِيَيtwo heralds of the death of لَيلىLayla لَقَدindeed هِجتُماyou both stirred up لَناfor us
تَباريحَagonies نَوحٍwailing فيin الدِيارِthe dwellings كِلاكُماboth of you
And O you two who announce Layla’s death, you have indeed stirred in us
O callers of Layla, you have mourned for us
The agonies of wailing in the dwellings, both of you.
The sorrows of Noah in the lands, both of you
فَلاso may not عِشتُماyou both live إِلّاexcept حَليفَيtwo companions of مُصيبَةٍa calamity
وَلاand may not مُتُّماyou both die حَتّىuntil يَطولَlasts long بَلاكَماthe affliction of you both
So may you both live only as companions of calamity,
You have not lived except as allies of affliction
And may you not die until your suffering has lasted long.
And you will not die until your affliction is prolonged
وَأَسلَمَتِand may yield الأَيّامُthe days فيهاin it عَجائِباًwonders
بِمَوتِكُماthrough the deaths of you both إِنّيindeed I أُحِبُّI love رِداكُماthe destruction of you both
And may the days yield wonders therein,
And the days have surrendered wonders in them
Through your deaths; indeed, I love your destruction.
With your death, I love to return you
أَظُنُّكُماI think you both لاnot تَعلَمانِyou both know مُصيبَتيmy calamity
لَقَدindeed حَلَّhas befallen بَينُseparation الوَصلِunion فيماin what أَراكُماI see you both
I think you two do not know my calamity;
I think you do not know my affliction
Separation has indeed befallen union, as I see you both.
It has come between union whenever I see you
