ياO صاحِبَيَّmy two companions اللَذَينِwho (both) اليَومَtoday قَدalready أَخَذاthey both caught

O my two companions, who today have caught
O my two friends who today have taken
in the snare a likeness of Layla, then shackled her,
A rope and made on it a knot like Layla's,
إِنّيindeed I أَرىsee اليَومَtoday فيin أَعطافِthe flanks شاتِكُماyour gazelle (you two)

indeed, today I see in the flanks of your gazelle
I see today around your shoulders,
a resemblance: she resembles Layla, so unbind her.
Resembling Layla's knot you have tied.
وَأَرشِداهاand guide her (you two) إِلىto خَضراءَa green place مُعشِبَةٍgrassy

And guide her to a green, grassy meadow
And guide her to a verdant meadow,
one day; and if she seeks a mate, show her the way.
One day though she seeks solitude direct her,
وَأَورِداهاand lead her to water (you two) غَديراًa pool لاmay … not عَدِمتُكُماI lose you both

And lead her to a pool—may I never lose you both—
And take her to a pool, may you never lack
of raincloud water, close by her pasture.
Water fresh from Muzn, near where her cattle graze.
