My day is like other people's day, until there appears

To me the night, and the beds stir me toward you.

I pass my day with conversation and wishes,

And at night something brings me and sorrow together.

Indeed, love for you has taken root in my heart,

As fingers are firmly rooted in the two palms.

And were this the place for reproach, there would be relief

For my heart; but reproach has its proper places.

And you are the one who made my body a glass vessel,

    Revealing what the ribs contain.

Do you hope for union with Layla? Yet it is only

Covetous hopes that repeatedly strike men's necks.
