تَحَمَّلتُI bore ماwhat يَلقَونَthey endure مِنfrom بَينِهِمamong them وَحديby myself
Lovers have complained of yearning; would that I
The lovers complain of sleeplessness—if only
alone among them had borne what they endure,
I alone could bear what comes between them!
وَكانَتand was لِنَفسيfor myself لَذَّةُthe pleasure الحُبِّof love كُلُّهاall of it
فَلَمso did not يَلقَهاexperience it قَبليbefore me مُحِبٌّa lover وَلاnor بَعديafter me
and all the pleasure of love had been mine,
My soul knew the bliss of love entire,
so no lover had known it before me, nor would any after me.
No lover before or after ever grasped it.
