Layla’s body bloomed in her garments, as did
The radiance of Layla's body shines through her clothes
a tender shoot beside the branch; her stem had grown.
As radiance shines from a tender branch, though stout its wood

And why does Layla not clear herself of my blood,
Why does not Layla give me ease from my flowing blood?
though she knows the fire’s fuel is scorching?
She knows the fire that burns has her for fuel and food

Listen, tell Layla: I have given her my blood,
Go, say to Layla I have given her my flowing blood
and I have freely given my soul—its beloved has announced its death.
And I have found that she, so precious, gave me no good
