    I hamstrung my she-camel at al-Mulawwih’s grave,

    at Dhu al-Ramth, when his relatives forsook him.

    So I told her to be hamstrung, for I

    shall be on foot tomorrow morning, though yesterday I rode her.

    فَكُلُّ اِمرِئٍ لِلمَوتِ لا بُدَّ شارِبُه

    So may God never cast you away, O son of Muzahim;

    for every man must drink of death.

    For you were indeed long of sword-belt and a giver of the

    fine steeds, and a sword whose edges were never blunted.
