دَعَوتُ إِلَهي دَعوَةً ما جَهِلتَها

دَعَوتُ إِلَهي دَعوَةً ما جَهِلتَها

وَرَبّي بِما تَخفى الصُدورُ بَصيرُ

وَرَبّي بِما تَخفى الصُدورُ بَصيرُ

I called upon my God with a prayer you were not unaware of;

I called on my God a call He knew not of

And my Lord sees what breasts conceal.

And my Lord is seeing of what hearts conceal

لَإِن كانَ يُهدى بَردَ أَنيابِها العُلا

لَإِن كانَ يُهدى بَردَ أَنيابِها العُلا

لِأَفقَرَ مِنّي إِنَّني لَفَقيرُ

لِأَفقَرَ مِنّي إِنَّني لَفَقيرُ

If the coolness of her upper teeth is bestowed

If the cooling of their fangs is guided aright

On someone poorer than I, then I am poor indeed.

By it, I'm poorer than the poorest wretch

فَقَد شاعَتِ الأَخبارُ أَن قَد تَزَوَّجَت

فَقَد شاعَتِ الأَخبارُ أَن قَد تَزَوَّجَت

فَهَل يَأتِيَنّي بِالطَلاقِ بَشيرُ

فَهَل يَأتِيَنّي بِالطَلاقِ بَشيرُ

For news has spread that she has married;

Rumors have spread that you have wed

So will a bearer of glad tidings come to me with news of divorce?

Will any herald bring me news of divorce?
