Convey greetings to al-Washal, and say to it:
Send greetings to the abandoned camp, and say to it:
Every watering place is ill-favored since you left.
All the drinking places have been miserable since you left.
جَبَلٌa mountain يَزيدُrises higher عَلىthan الجِبالِthe mountains إِذاwhen بَداit appears

A mountain that surpasses the mountains when it comes into view,
It is a mountain that appears taller than mountains,
Standing between al-Dharāʾiʿ and al-Ḥuthūm.
Standing firm between the passes and sands.

وَيَبيتُand spends the night فيهِin it مَعَwith الشَمالِthe north wind نَسيمُa breeze
The east wind travels by night, then lodges in its sheltered flanks,
The morning breeze flows through it, spending the night in its valleys,
And a breeze spends the night within it, with the north wind.
And the north wind spends the night in it as well.
سُقياًa blessing of rain لِظِلِّكِfor your shade بِالعَشِيِّin the evening وَبِالضُحىand in the forenoon
وَلِبَردِand for the coolness مائِكَyour water وَالمِياهُwhile the waters حَميمُscalding hot
May rain bless your shade at evening and in the forenoon,
Watering your shade morning and evening,
And the coolness of your water, while other waters are scalding.
With the coldness of its water, though the water is hot.
لَوif كُنتُI was أَملِكُI had power over مَنعَwithholding مائِكَyour water لَمwould not يَذُقtaste

If I could withhold your water, not a taste
If I could forbid your water, no wretch would taste
Of what your rock pools hold would a base man have, as long as I lived.
What is in your leather bucket as long as I live.
