وَماand nothing بِيَin me إِلّاexcept حُبُّlove of لَيلىLayla كِفايَةًenough
جُنوناًmadness وَإِنّيand indeed I فيin الهَوىpassion لَأَسيرُsurely a captive

فَلاso do not تَقتُلينيkill me أُمَّO mother of مالِكَMalik عَنوَةًby force

So slay me not, O mother of Malik, in rage-

At dawn thou hast the power about my neck
فَياso, O رَبِّmy Lord هَبgrant نَفسيmy soul لِنَفسيto myself وَداوِنيand heal me
بِلَيلىwith Layla لِتُجلىso that … may be dispelled كُربَةٌanguish وَزَفيرُand sighing
So, my Lord, grant me my own soul, and heal me

with Layla, so that anguish and sighing may be dispelled.
With Layla, that anguish and sighing may depart
