وَشَغِلتُ عَن فَهمِ الحَديثِ سِوى

وَشَغِلتُ عَن فَهمِ الحَديثِ سِوى

ما كانَ مِنكَ وَحُبُّكُم شُغلي

ما كانَ مِنكَ وَحُبُّكُم شُغلي

And I was distracted from understanding conversation, except

I was busy with words other than yours

what came from you; love for you is my preoccupation.

And my love for you was my only concern

وَأُديمَ نَحوَ مُحَدِّثي لِيَرى

وَأُديمَ نَحوَ مُحَدِّثي لِيَرى

أَن قَد فَهِمتُ وَعِندَكُم عَقلي

أَن قَد فَهِمتُ وَعِندَكُم عَقلي

And I keep looking toward the one speaking to me, so he may see

I kept facing my companions, pretending

that I have understood, while my mind is with you.

That I understood them, and had some discerning
