إن تسألي جحجبى وإخوتَها

إن تسألي جحجبى وإخوتَها

تُخبِرك أني من خيرِهم نسبا

تُخبِرك أني من خيرِهم نسبا

If you ask Jaḥjabā and her brothers,

If you ask my veil and her sisters,

she will tell you that I am among their best in lineage.

They will tell you I am of the best lineage.

أنمي إلى الصيد من رفاعةَ والـ

أنمي إلى الصيد من رفاعةَ والـ

ـأخيار منهم إن حصلُوا سَبَبا

ـأخيار منهم إن حصلُوا سَبَبا

I trace my ancestry to the proud nobles of Rifāʿa and the

I incline towards hunting from courage and seek

finest among them, if they reckon ties of kinship.

The best of them, if they obtain a reason.
