بِما لَقِيَت مِنّا جُموعُ الزَمازِمِ

Lo, I tell Usayd, wherever they have traveled and headed,

Shall I not tell Usayd where they marched and turned,

of what the Persian hosts suffered at our hands.

Of what they met from us, hordes of warriors,

غَداةَ هَوَوا في وَأيِ خُردٍ فَأَصبَحوا

تَعودُهُم شُهبُ النُسورِ القَشاعِمِ

On the morning they fell into Khurd’s hollow, they came to be

Next morning after they ambled wantonly in the vale - and at dawn became

visited by grey, aged vultures.

Food for the talons of swooping eagles,

قَتَلناهُمُ حَتّى مَلَأنا شِعابَهُم

وَقَد أُفعِمَ اللَهَبُ الَّذي بِالصَرائِمِ

وَقَد أُفعِمَ اللَهَبُ الَّذي بِالصَرائِمِ

We killed them until we filled their ravines,

We killed them until we filled the valleys with them

and indeed the gorge at al-Sara’im was filled to the brim.

As the raging flames roared among their highlands.
